Congratulations!
2022 Tracy Vandewall Award Winner
Adrienne Stuart
Adrienne's commitment to improving the lives of individuals who experience I/DD led to the development of a state-wide legislative coalition called The North Star, which, for the first time, brought together self-advocates, families, providers, and decision makers. The North Star project was created to develop one bill to address all of the unmet needs of individuals with I/DD.
"The goal of the North Star project is to ensure that every person with a developmental disability in Washington State has what they need to thrive in the community, no matter where they live. We thrive when our families and people with disabilities have the resources they need to live full and meaningful lives in the community. "
Adrienne developed a process that is open to everyone. She removed barriers so that people who experience I/DD and are dependent upon DDA services are supported to advocate for their needs. Adrienne was able to respectfully facilitate the coordination of huge amounts of information and work with the community to develop significant legislative priorities and empower advocates to steer those priorities to groundbreaking legislation.
Adrienne's "North Star" led to legislative change!
In 2022 The North Star project helped get House Bill 1980, 2008, and the language supports in schools bills passed.
Thank You Adrienne!
Not just for the work you've done here in Pierce County but for the statewide changes you helped create!
