Congratulations to Aimee Dunlap! Our newest Leadership Award winner.

Picture
Aimee is a wealth of knowledge and is deeply committed to improving post school and community connections and outcomes for young adults with I/DD in and around Tacoma. She has supported countless individuals and families and is a masterful resource connector and advocate. Aimee is an inspiration to all Tacoma Public School teachers, paras, ESAs, and district leadership and makes an impact day in and day out for young adults and their teams.

An example of Aimee’s determination, innovation, neurodiversity and equity is seen in meetings.  Teams are scared and they leave the meeting with a student-centered action plan and supportive safety nets for reaching their goals after high school. Her dedication to teamwork and honoring the hopes, dreams, and agency of all individuals is truly a marvel.

Who is Tracy A. Vandewall?

As a mother, leader, advocate, friend, and neighbor, she was a champion for persons who experience I/DD. Tracy was the founding Executive Director of the Pierce County Coalition for Developmental Disabilities (PC2), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. It was Tracy’s vision that organized, planned, and started the Pierce County Legislative Forum.  She was also instrumental in our community by creating the Rainbow Festival, a family-centered day in the park for all abilities!

Tracy used her time, leadership, and talents to make the world a better place. She rallied anyone around her, advocated for legislative change, and made it her mission to connect people together. When she “tapped you on the shoulder” or asked you to join her, people did their best to deliver!  Tracy died in 2019 and we honor her legacy with this community award during the Pierce County Legislative Forum.
